From needs to solutions: Building sustainable support for researchers working with language data
Community workshop: From needs to solutions: Building sustainable support for researchers working with language data
Date: 26 November 2026
Place: University of Bern, S 201, UniS, Schanzeneckstrasse 1
Time: 10:00–17:30
How are language data used across disciplines? What challenges do researchers face in managing, analysing, sharing and preserving these data? And, most importantly, where can researchers go when they need help? These are the questions the LaDaD project (co-funded through swissuniversities Open Science II programme) — Language Data Across Disciplines — set out to answer. Now, as the project draws to a close, we invite project partners, data stewards, and researchers across disciplines to join us for the LaDaD community workshop in Bern, where we will present the project's results and outputs and bring the community together to discuss the future of language data management in Switzerland.
What to expect
- Insights from the disciplines — Findings from our interviews with disciplinary experts and our national survey, showing how researchers beyond linguistics work with language data, and what they need most.
- New resources — A first look at what LaDaD has built: legal and ethical guidance, and a catalogue of training resources for researchers and teachers.
- Tools, NLP pipelines & practical workflows — Examples of language-data infrastructures and NLP methods in action, showing what they can offer research beyond linguistics.
- Building a sustainable community — The kickoff of the SRDSN Language Research Data Management (L-RDM) Node, a new community connecting researchers, data stewards and ORD specialists working with language data.
From LaDaD to the future
What have we learned? What have we built? And where do we go from here? LaDaD may be coming to an end, but the community, resources and support structures it has helped create are just beginning.
To attend please register here until November 12.
